Delaware has a wide range of attractions making it a playground for any age group. When you are in the region, you can experience the energy of a major metropolitan area or enjoy nature with a large amount of outdoor activities. Whatever you most enjoy, you can find in this city and surrounding area.

If you want to be outside, there is plenty of outdoor fun in and around Delaware. You can fish, hike, swim, participate in water sports, go boating, watch birds and enjoy any number of other outdoor pursuits. This area is filled with rivers, lakes and reservoirs within its state parks. The Alum Creek State Park has over 3,000 acres of water and a 3,000 square foot beach. This is the best place for boating as well as water skiing and swimming. There are also wonderful hiking trails in the park and in the winter, there are winter sports recreational areas. The Delaware State Park is a smaller version of the same kind of fun. With 1,300 acres of water and an 800 square foot beach, this more intimate area is great for families.

The Olentangy Indian Caverns offer a different kind of entertainment and natural beauty. These caverns were created many millions of years ago by the underground force of the river as it cut through limestone rock. Today, you can take exciting tours of the winding passages that lead to spacious underground rooms. You will learn about the Wyandotte Indians that used the caverns as shelter from bad weather. The caverns are attached to a museum that has artifacts and information relating to Indian heritage and you can also read about the mysterious facts that surround the site.

Anytime you are away from home you will likely want to do a little shopping. Delaware has quaint, one of a kind boutiques and some of the world's top fashion retailers all in the same city. You can find down home shopping and upscale experiences on the same street. The Historic Shopping District in the city features tree lined streets and 1800's architecture. You can stroll through the shops, enjoy coffee and ice cream breaks on the benches along the sidewalk and stop into one of the restaurants for a meal. In addition, on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings, the farmer's market takes place along the street with even more options when it comes to unique shopping. This historic area is also on the National Register of Historic Places so not only will you have a unique place to shop, but also a historic area to explore.

Families often enjoy spending an afternoon at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. This zoo is quite large and can take many hours to explore. The area features extensive walking paths that are open 363 days of the year no matter what the weather is like outside. Sometimes it is actually better to visit when it is a little colder because the animals are more active, though some of the animals from warmer areas like Australia and Africa cannot tolerate the cold and are kept in their indoor habitats.

On really hot days, Zoombezi Bay is a terrific water park attraction. This 22.7-acre park has 17 water slides, an action river and a lazy river, a kiddie pool, a wave pool, private cabanas and much more. The new Big Boa Falls is one of only six speed tunnels in the country. You will feel weightless as you traverse the tunnel and splash into the landing pool. The Python Plunge gives you a chance to ride a water slide going uphill. You will be blasted uphill by jetting water as you shoot into a 70-foot long landing pool area. This water park has many other fun slides and attractions to keep you cool on those hot summer days.
